Enkidu is Gilgamesh’s lifelong companion—and no, he’s not a dog, despite constantly being mistaken for one (much to his frustration). He’s been by the hero’s side for as long as either of them can remember.
Though he bristles at being treated like a puppy (even if he secretly enjoys the occasional belly scratch), nothing irritates him more than being underestimated.
Like Gilgamesh, Enkidu is a divine being with powers of his own. He can unleash elemental projectiles from his mouth to damage enemies or solve the occasional puzzle. And while he insists he is definitely not a dog, he can dig like one—often unearthing valuable treasures buried underground.
Enkidu is the more talkative of the pair, often taking the lead in conversations. Gilgamesh knows him well enough to stay quiet when Enkidu launches into yet another impassioned rant about how he looks nothing like a dog—and how deeply offended he is that anyone would think otherwise.
